When the Dark Goddess Calls
I have reflected a lot around when I “got the call'“ from the Dark Goddess. There are several key moments in my life, but I guess I will take to you to my late teens. My teen years were riddled with a lot of dark and traumatic experiences. I was a child thrown to the wolves, and by the time I was almost 17 I entered an 18 month abusive relationship.
One particular abusive day, I ended up unconscious after hours of experiencing multiple forms of abuse. In that moment, I had an out of body experience - connecting me to every living thing and Earth herself with vibrant blue/white threads. At that moment, everything was connected.
I felt the pulse of humanity and life through me.
Just as fast as I was connected, I jolted back awake.
Around this time, I had discovered tarot and astrology. But this experience connected me to something I cannot explain, my psychic gifts were activated and the Witch within was brought to life.
After I left that abusive relationship, I found myself on the streets. I had a strong urge to protect the younger girls, and brought many of them close to me. I had experienced the worse, and no one protected me. And as time went on, I was the one who dug out the predators in the communities. I was the one to whisper, “I believe you.”as we passed the bottle between us, tears flowing.
I spent a few more years on the streets, reading tarot at bars, punk shows and the street corners. I started drawing demon girls, skulls, snakes and broken hearts, writing poetry and delving into Witchcraft books at the library and books stores.
It took me almost ten years to realize, she was there all along. She was there guiding me, protecting me and was behind the passion I developed for showing up for other women at such a young age.
It was The Dark Goddess, weaving through my life gently until my late 20s… Which is another story for another time.
